CNN filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration Tuesday morning, demanding the return of reporter Jim Acosta's White House press credentials.

President Donald Trump had Acosta's press pass lifted last week after a contentious news conference Wednesday in which the cable network's chief White House correspondent persisted in demanding answers to questions after Trump had rebuffed him and moved on.

The suit, filed in federal district court in Washington, D.C.,  challenges the administration's move as a violation of the First Amendment protection of freedom of the press and the Fifth Amendment right to due process. It calls for "an immediate restraining order requiring the pass be returned."

The suit comes less than 48 hours after the network's announcement Sunday evening that it was planning to file.
