White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders disputed the findings of a government report warning of the consequences of climate change, saying on Tuesday that it is "not based on facts," The Hill reported.
She argued that modeling the climate “is never exact” and that the report is “the most extreme version” and is “not data driven.”
Sanders insisted to reporters at a press briefing that “the president’s certainly leading on what matters most in this process, and that’s on having clean air, clean water,” adding that “in fact, the United States continues to be a leader on that front.”
The report was developed by numerous federal agencies, and the hundreds of scientists involved in conducting the research concluded that climate change could end up costing the United States billions of dollars a year within decades if greenhouse gases are not significantly reduced.
The report, a version of which is mandated to be released every four years, also said that climate change could worsen environmental disasters such as wildfires and flooding.
Trump had already downplayed the report’s findings on Monday, according to CNN.
The president told the press that he doesn't "believe" its warnings after having read “some” of the report.
