Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer praised the nation's highest-ranked member of the judiciary Friday morning for calling out President Donald Trump and his critical comments about judges.
Earlier this week, Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts responded to Trump's remarks by saying there are no "Obama judges" or other judges tied to any president's name, but rather judges that try to make the right decisions.
"I don't agree very often with Chief Justice Roberts, especially his partisan decisions which seem highly political on Citizens United, Janus, and Shelby," Schumer wrote on Twitter.
"But I am thankful today that he — almost alone among Republicans — stood up to President Trump and for an independent judiciary."
Trump fired back at Roberts on Wednesday and again on Thursday, saying "Justice Roberts can say what he wants, but the 9th Circuit is a complete & total disaster."
