Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie blasted Donald Trump over a long list of issues, but said he still plans on supporting the president in 2020.
Christie made his comments during a Monday interview conducted by The Atlantic. Christie said Trump has a bad temperament and also ripped into the president over his failure to launch a military strike against Iran. He called Trump’s child-separation policy “simply the wrong thing to do.” And Christie claimed Trump initially staffed his administration with “awful people.”
The Atlantic reported that Christie agreed with the characterization of Trump’s hiring process as “a rolling sh&% show.”
And it said Christie maintained Michael Flynn was an unfit national security adviser and that the president should not have brought in Tom Price as Health and Human Services secretary and Scott Pruitt as head of the Environmental Protection Agency. He claimed Reince Priebus was not a good choice for chief of staff. Christie said Jeff Sessions was incompetent as attorney general.
He also said Steve Bannon should not have been given a White House post after the campaign.
Christie added: “And what the hell was Omarosa doing in the White House?”
Christie said Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, lacks the experience to be in the White House. As for Trump’s daughter, Ivanka, serving in the administration, Christie noted that he had warned Trump not to give formal jobs to family members because it could put them in the political crosshairs.
But despite Christie’s differences with Trump, he still is supporting him. And he noted Republicans are continuing to back the president because they prefer his policies to Medicare for All, the Green New Deal and college-debt forgiveness – all backed by progressive Democrats.
