President Donald Trump is serious about his threat to shut down the government if Congress fails to approve $5 billion in border security funding, incoming Republican Conference Chairwoman Rep. Liz Cheney told Fox & Friends on Wednesday.

The Wyoming lawmaker met with Trump about the funding.

“The president's been very clear. We've got to have $5 billion for border security. Obviously, the wall's a part of that.”

She added that Democrats are in a “tough situation” because the current climate demonstrates just how crucial it is that border security be enhanced.

On Sunday, Border Patrol agents shot tear gas at migrants in Mexico who threw rocks at them while trying to illegally cross the border.

“The Democrats would like people to believe that they're legitimate asylum seekers, but legitimate asylum seekers don't attack border guards,” Cheney said. “They don't throw rocks and bricks and projectiles and rush the border.”

Cheney added that there is no  Plan B, and the president is very firm about the need for $5 billion, and he “is not willing to give on this.”
