15,000 Federal Gov. Employees Exposed in Cheating Spouse Hack

15,000 Federal Gov. Employees Exposed in Cheating Spouse Hack

By    |   Wednesday, 19 August 2015 07:40 PM EDT

Some 15,000 employees of the federal government were reportedly among the 32 million cheating spouses exposed in a hack of the online adultery site Ashley Madison.

Names, ages, addresses, phone numbers, credit card details and detailed sexual fantasies have been leaked in the hack of a controversial seduction site — and the data included email addresses for U.S. government officials, United Kingdom civil servants and high-level executives at European and North America corporations.

But the Daily Mail reports 15,000 users have been found to be registered under .gov and .mil email addresses - the official domain names of the American military and government.

The website has long boasted that 59,000 Washington, D.C. residents are members of the infidelity site, and that the district had the highest number of registrations across America for the last three years, the Daily Mail reports.

According to the Washington Post, many of the leaked profiles used their political beliefs to entice like-minded cheats, including profiles titled "a Democrat who loves to kiss" or "Staunchly Non-Republican but otherwise very open-minded."

The FBI said Wednesday it was investigating, but in a statement added: "We cannot provide any details because it's an ongoing matter.”

Reuters contributed to this report.
