Charlotte's mayor doesn't believe the city council will consider immediately whether to repeal its pro-LGBT ordinance, even as North Carolina Republicans say it must do so before they could rescind a broader state law called House Bill 2.

Mayor Jennifer Roberts said the council wasn't prepared to consider eliminating the ordinance at its Monday council meeting. Legislative leaders and Gov. Pat McCrory have offered a deal in which House Bill 2 could be repealed only if Charlotte acts first.

The state law was passed in March in response to Charlotte's ordinance expanding anti-discrimination protections. The state law blocked all local governments from passing similar rules and limited bathroom options for transgender people.

The NCAA and Atlantic Coast Conference last week took championships away from North Carolina because of the law.
