Sen.-elect Mitt Romney, R-Utah, is merely a junior senator and needs to "shut up" and stop criticizing President Donald Trump, political commentator Michael Reagan told Newsmax TV.
During an appearance on Wednesday's "Newsmax Now," Reagan reacted to Romney's The Washington Post opinion piece in which he blasted the president.
"Maybe he should have won in 2012, but he didn't," said Reagan, alluding to Romney's failed presidential bid. "Now, he's a senator. It's interesting, whenever he wants Donald Trump to endorse him, he speaks nicely. Now that he's a senator, he goes after Donald Trump. And he's not even sworn in as a United States junior senator from Utah at this point.
"I chalk it up to ego, which he has an ego. There are a lot of people that feel the way he feels and don't say anything. He's gone out and he said it at the wrong time, at the wrong place."

The 71-year-old Romney, said Reagan, has some things to learn as a newly elected member of the Senate.
"It's time for Romney to understand his position as a junior senator from Utah," Reagan said. "He is not the president, he is not the leader of the Senate, and he is not gonna be running in 2020. So, it's time for him to shut up and sit down."
