DC Church Slaps Trump on Zero Tolerance Policy

An influential Catholic Church just five blocks from the White House took aim at President Trump’s zero-tolerance policy at the U.S.-Mexico border, comparing immigrants trying to enter America with the struggles of Jesus, Mary and Joseph.

"Just as the Holy Family, filled with fear and anxiety, were rejected and shunned as they sought a safe place for their family, so too are thousands of immigrants on the southern border," The Cathedral of Saint Matthew the Apostle said in an email to parishioners, obtained by The Washington Examiner.

The church is asking its members to participate in a rally against zero-tolerance across the street from the White House on Saturday.

"Join St. Matthew's Social Justice Committee as we stand in solidarity with families being separated at the US/Mexico border," the message says.

"Stand, let your voice be heard, and demonstrate Jesus' invitation to welcome the stranger with compassion, treat the immigrant with dignity, and support those in need with His love."

The email includes a drawing of an immigrant family -- two adults and a child – with halos.
