While it will be difficult to reach an overall accord on immigration, Republicans and Democrats should at least be able to agree on a path to citizenship for illegal immigrants who came here as children, says House Majority Leader Eric Cantor.

Last year, President Barack Obama announced that the government would no longer seek to throw out illegal immigrants who came here as children, haven’t committed crimes, are in school or graduated, and/or enlisted in the military.

"We’ve got an opportunity to come together on one point, and that is the kids,” Cantor told Fox News Thursday.

“If a kid was brought here by his parents or her parents, unbeknown to them, and knows no other place than America as home, why wouldn’t we want to give them a path to citizenship?

“I think we should," Cantor said.

As for the issue of immigration overall, "in some way, I believe we can work together to do something on this matter," he said.

But as for the comprehensive reform favored by President Barack Obama, "that is a tall order,” Cantor said. “Comprehensive things are tough to come by.”
