Canada is standing firm on its displeasure with President Donald Trump’s tariff moves — and is calling out sharp attacks by Trump advisers of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau as neither “appropriate or useful.”
At a news conference Sunday, Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister Chrystia Freeland called out remarks by Trump’s top economic adviser Larry Kudlow and White House National Trade Council Director Peter Navarro.
“Canada does not believe that ad hominem attacks are a particularly appropriate or useful way to conduct our relations with other countries,” Freeland told reporters Sunday, The Hill reported.
She also said that Canada is "very measured" and that country officials "use fact-based arguments."
After his meeting with G-7 countries in Canada, Trump lashed out at Trudeau in a pair of tweets Saturday, calling him "very dishonest & weak."
The tweets were in response to Trudeau’s news conference earlier in the day, when he declared Canada wouldn't be "pushed around" over the tariffs.
