Broward County, Fla. officials are investigating who leaked a video of a gunman firing shots inside the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, where five people were killed and six wounded, the Sun-Sentinel reports.
TMZ posted the video of a man identified as Esteban Santiago firing a gun it as he walked through a baggage claim area.
Describing the video, TMZ said: "You see the shooter, 26-year-old Esteban Santiago, with a 9 mm handgun tucked inside his waistband, and then pulling it out and beginning to shoot."
According to the Sun-Sentinel, Broward Mayor Barbara Sharief said the TMZ video appears to a cellphone copy of the actual security video.
She said the security video "was being played in a secure room for only people with certain security clearance." Sharief said she was concerned the video was handed over to TMZ in exchange for money.
"Nobody gives TMZ a video for free" she told the Sentinel. "You ever heard of that? It is a crime to copy the airport video without authorization," she said.
"What we were trying to prevent by not releasing that video was copycats," Sharief said. Baggage claim areas are not "the most heavily guarded areas."
