CNN's Brian Stelter blasted Republicans for doing "as little as possible" in response to President Donald Trump's Twitter attack on MSNBC's "Morning Joe" hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski.
On CNN Friday morning, co-host Chris Cuomo called the GOP's reaction to Trump's tweets "equally appalling," and singled out House Speaker Paul Ryan as "a man who stakes himself on family values, supposed to be a leader, the speaker of the House," who then said, as paraphrased by Cuomo, "the tweet is inappropriate . . . but I'm here to focus on my job."
Trump tweeted a barrage of insults at the MSNBC hosts earlier this week, particularly Brzezinski, whom he claims to have seen "bleeding badly from a face-lift" while at his resort. On Thursday, Stelter tweeted a picture of the host apparently taken that night.
"It's not leadership," Stelter said when asked if this is the "right way to lead in this situation" by Cuomo.
"If we talk about the word leadership, there's a lot of people like President Trump that watch television coverage of themselves, public officials who get angry at the TV," Stelter continued, adding, "leadership means not yelling back, not going as low as the people commenting on you."
