With the number of illegal immigrants passing through the border in record numbers, Customs and Border Protection (CBP) announced the erection of its second temporary housing unit in two weeks.
Apprehensions of illegal immigrants are up nearly 10,000 more per month than usual, the Washington Examiner reported, necessitating the need for the second 500-person facility, this one in Donna, Texas.
"The temporary site … will provide additional space for those in CBP custody awaiting transfer to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement for processing, detention, and/or removal, or to the Department of Health and Human Services," the CBP said in a statement.
"CBP, assisted by approved contractors onsite, will ensure the basic needs of those in CBP custody are met."
Less than two weeks ago, CPB set up its first temporary facility in Tornillo, Texas.
In October, CPB apprehended more than 46,000 illegals, the most in any October over the past 5 years, the Examiner reported, and 10,000 more than in October of 2014.
