Former president Bill Clinton is helping the Democratic National Committee increase voter registration in a new video that will go out to supporters Thursday.
"There's nothing more fundamentally American than the idea that all our citizens, no matter where they come from or what their politics are, should be able to make their voices heard," Clinton says.
"Today, there is no greater assault on our core values than the rampant efforts to restrict the right to vote," he added.

According to
Politico, the video is debuting while the DNC is facing a debt problem, and it is part of an effort for the Democratic Party to convey a sense of gravity as it get closer to the midterm elections.
Clinton has already began to take an active role in supporting Democratic candidates running in races in November.
While the former president has campaigned for Democratic candidates in the past,
CNN says that this election cycle sits in the shadow of the presidential race in 2016, in which his wife, Hillary Clinton, is expected to run for president.
