Former Vice President Joe Biden could emerge as the winner in the fight between Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., and Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., The Hill is reporting.
Biden, who at one point downplayed expectations in Iowa, is indicating he now believes the state is in play for his presidential campaign, according to The Hill.
Biden backers note that Sanders has been climbing in the polls. But they say Sanders' squabble with Warren could hurt him with women.
The dispute between Sanders and Warren came after CNN reported that in 2018 when the two were discussing possible presidential bids, he told her a woman could not win the office.
And in a statement, she said: "I thought a woman could win, he disagreed."
Sanders denied making the remark. During the Tuesday night debate, he maintained: "Of course a woman can win."
Later, Warren did not shake hands with Sanders after the debate and told him he called her a "liar on national TV."
The dispute between the two could provide a nice contrast for Biden, The Hill pointed out.
"This proves that once again, even on our side, he's above all the pettiness that we see in politics today," said a Biden ally who has spoken to Biden recently. "And he doesn't have to do a thing. He just needs to kick back and let them prove his point."
Democratic strategist Basil Smikle added: "A tussle between Warren and Sanders has the potential to make both of them unlikeable while helping Biden, who has been conspicuously even-keeled and gaffe-free in the last few weeks."
