Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos said Tuesday after the Texas school shooting that states and local governments must take action to keep students safe.
"We must ensure our children are safe at school. This administration is committed to keeping our nation’s students and teachers safe at school," DeVos said in statement to the House Education Committee, The New York Post reported.
"Naturally, the primary responsibility for the physical security of schools rests with states and local communities," Devos said, The New York Post reported. .
The Federal Commission on School Safety, which was formed in the wake of the Parkland, Florida school shooting, will pass along its findings with state and local governments by the end of the year, said DeVos, CNN reported.
DeVos referenced the Texas school shooting, in which 10 died, in a May 18 tweet.
"No student should have to experience the trauma suffered by so many today and in similar events prior," DeVos wrote.
