Former Vice President Joe Biden is holding a double-digit lead over Sen. Bernie Sanders for the Democrats' presidential nomination, according to a new CNN poll conducted by SSRS.

The poll, showing 52% of voters would choose Biden, compared to 36% for Sanders, was conducted from March 4-7, in the days after the former vice president's strong Super Tuesday performance and after the field of contenders narrowed to just the two main contenders.

In other numbers:

  • Sen. Elizabeth Warren, 7%, largely due to her 18% showing on Wednesday before she ended her campaign.
  • Biden's support rose to 57% after Warren left.
  • Sanders stood at 36% after her departure.
  • 2% said they still back Warren.
  • 6% said they'd pick someone else or were undecided.
  • 9 out of 10 voters said they'd ultimately support either candidate in November.

Biden's Super Tuesday wins also appear to have affected his favorability ratings:

  • Biden, 48% favorable, up from 39% in December.
  • Sanders, 52% unfavorable, up from 44% unfavorable in December.

Biden also holds a lead of almost 20 points among white voters and 10 points among non-white voters over Sanders, but the senator's strength with Latino voters cancels out some of Biden's backing from African American voters.

However, there are sharp divides in the party among age groups, ideological views, and party affiliations:

  • Under 45: Sanders over Biden, 57% to 31%.
  • Voters over 45: Biden, 72%; Sanders, 17%.
  • Liberals: Sanders, 52%; Biden, 36%.
  • Moderate/conservative: Biden, 65%; Sanders, 24%.
  • Self-identified Democrats: Biden, 55%; Sanders, 32%.
  • Independents: Sanders, 46%; Biden, 45%.

The survey has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.3 percentage points. For results among the 540 registered voters who are Democrats or Democrat-leaning independents, it is plus or minus 5.0 percentage points.
