Michigan voters say in a new poll they do not want President Donald Trump to be impeached, but they would vote for someone else if the presidential elections were held now.

Overall, fewer than 36% of the voters questioned in a new Glengariff Group poll of 600 likely voters said they would vote for Trump's re-election, compared to 51% who said they will vote for someone new, reports The Detroit News.

The voters also opposed calls for impeachment proceedings, by 53% to 40%.

By the numbers:

  • Former Vice President Joe Biden topped Trump by 53%-41% with 4% undecided.
  • Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., also was over Trump by 53%-41% with 5% undecided.
  • Pete Buttigieg, 6 points over Trump.
  • Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., 4 points over Trump.
  • Sen Kamala Harris, D-Calif., 3 points over Trump.
  • Among strong Republican voters, 69% said they would definitely vote for Trump's re-election, and 14% said they probably would.
  • With independents, 34% said they would definitely vote for someone other than Trump, and 16% said they would likely vote for someone else.
  • Warren and Harris, however, fell within the poll's 4-point margin of error.

Biden was the only candidate from either party with favorable name identification, including among independents, and he polled high among female voters. Biden was the only candidate from either party polling well with independents.

Sanders, meanwhile, did well with men with only a high school degree, one of the demographics that helped elect Trump in 2016.

Trump campaign communications director Tim Murtaugh told the Detroit News that Trump will win in Michigan again "on the booming economy and on his record of bringing back manufacturing jobs as promised."
