Former Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson on Wednesday joked that his mother would've shot "dishonest reporters" during his presidential campaign, if she wasn't suffering from Alzheimer's disease.
In an interview on CBS Radio's
"Brown and Scoop" podcast, Carson, laughing along with hosts Jake Brown and Brandon Robinson, said, "She probably would have taken a gun and gone out and shot some of the dishonest reporters."
The retired neurosurgeon was referring to the media coverage he received during his campaign, which included research claiming he was untruthful about his background. The media constructed "all these incredible lies" because my popularity rivaled Hillary Clinton's, Carson said.
Reiterating his support for Donald Trump, Carson said, "His style resonates with a large number of people, largely because of where we are as a nation. We're sort of at what I call the 'WWE Raw' stage."
The former GOP presidential candidate opposes Clinton based on what he believes are her viewpoints on government. Americans in both parties should familiarize themselves with the book Clinton wrote her senior thesis on, Saul Alinsky's "Rules for Radicals," about the formation of a utopian society, said Carson.
Utopias always end up with "a small group of elites controlling everything and a rapidly reducing middle class." And, if Clinton were elected, the U.S. would be more socialist and politically correct, he added.
As far as being part of Trump's cabinet, Carson said, "I don't particularly want a government job. I feel I can be much more effective from outside the government."
