California Sen. Barbara Boxer has denounced former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani for claiming that he does not believe President Barack Obama "loves America."
In a series of four angry Twitter messages, the retiring Democrat pointed out Obama’s accomplishment during his two-term tenure, including the killing of al-Qaida terror leader Osama bin Laden,
TalkingPointsMemo reported.
Giuliani made his inflammatory comments last week during a private dinner for potential 2016 GOP presidential candidate Scott Walker, the Wisconsin governor.
The ex-mayor stunned Democrats and Republicans alike when he said Obama's policies and public remarks about terrorists led him to the conclusion that the president "doesn't love you, and he doesn't love me," and most of all,
he doesn't think Obama "loves America."
Republicans like Giuliani are particularly incensed that Obama has refused to label the Islamic State (ISIS) terror group "Islamic" because the president fears turning the issue into a religious war instead of a war on terrorism.
Now Boxer has hit back at Giuliani, saying in one tweet, "Hey Rudy, why don’t you ask Osama bin Laden if President Obama loves America?"
In other messages, she highlighted Obama’s signature healthcare policy and his record at helping to create millions of jobs since he took office in 2008.
"Hey Rudy, why don’t you ask one of the 11 million people who now have affordable health care if President Obama loves America?" she wrote.
Her two other Twitter messages are:
New York GOP Rep. Peter King told Newsmax TV’s "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Monday that Giuliani should not have to say he's sorry or have to backtrack on his controversial remarks.
"He should not apologize and he's not apologizing. He's explained the context of it," said King. "[He explained] he was not saying that [Obama] was not patriotic, but he did say that he does not have the fervor and the drive that a president needs to effectively carry out a war."
