Jonathan Greenblatt, head of the Anti-Defamation League, blasted Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan as a “serial anti-Semite.”
Greenblatt’s comments came in an email to ADL followers on Friday.
“You might have noticed that Louis Farrakhan’s latest anti-Semitic screed, delivered last weekend at the Nation of Islam’s annual Saviours’ Day event, got very little coverage from the media,” Greenblatt wrote. “Who could blame them? Farrakhan, a serial anti-Semite, trotted out all the old tropes. Why give him any attention at all?
An article posted on the ADL website said Farrakhan claimed that Jewish principles “have exploited the American people through institutional usury and predatory lending practices.” He also blamed Jews for emasculating black men, the ADL noted.
But Greenblatt said: “ADL experts analyzed Farrakhan’s lies. They dissected his distorted reading of the Talmud, which was constructed to sow ill will between Jews and African Americans.
“We can’t stop Farrakhan from spouting lies, but we can make it clear that language like this, and the Holocaust denial claims espoused by his fellow speaker that day, Michael A. Hoffman II, are not acceptable.”
