Democrats are "schizophrenic" on impeachment and hearings like the one held to grill President Donald Trump's former campaign director Corey Lewandowski are little more than fishing expeditions, Fox News' Judge Andrew Napolitano said Tuesday.
"I don't blame the White House, and I don't blame the DOJ, for trying to frustrate the investigation of the president, because we don't know what that investigation is," Napolitano told Fox News' "Your World With Neil Cavuto," after the House Judiciary Committee's hearing.
Further, unless Congress officially decides to declare official impeachment proceedings, it will continue to get resistance from the White House like Lewandowski displayed today by telling committee members he had been told not to respond to questions concerning conversations with the president.
"[Trump] can and ought to resist a fishing opposition, but an impeachment inquiry, he may not resist, because Congress' power under the Constitution — that is absolute," Napolitano said.
"Congress gets its hands on whatever it wants from the president once it decides to impeach," he added, noting House Speaker Nancy Pelosi does not want to pursue impeachment proceedings against Trump at this time.
Fox News' Charles Payne agreed the Lewandowski hearing was "explosive," and agreed he does not know what came out of it.
"I don't think we got anything out of it," Napolitano said. "If Congressman (Jerry) Nadler asked for my advice, he will not ask for it, but I will tell him anyway, he should hire a cross-examiner to question witnesses."
