A Louisiana bakery recently told a teenage customer it would not write "Trump 2016" on a birthday cake she tried to order.
According to KSLA, McKenzie Gill went to the Bossier City, La. bakery at Albertsons, a grocery store chain, and she was denied her request. The teen first told her story on Facebook and was later contacted by the news station.
The cake was supposed to be for Gill's 18th birthday party. She told KSLA she was just trying to exercise her rights as an American.
"Trump is just someone I really look up to," Gill said.
Gill recalled her conversation with the bakery attendant: "We just need an American flag cake with Trump 2016 on it, and right when I said Trump the lady just [said,] Trump? And she was like, 'I can make you a flag cake but I'm not going to write Trump on it.'"
The store released a statement about the matter, saying the worker "misunderstood the training provided regarding copyrighted phrases, and incorrectly informed the customer we could not fulfill her request. We would be happy to provide the cake as the customer requested."
For the record, the teen went to another store and ordered a cake.
Three years ago, an Oregon bakery refused to make a wedding cake for a gay couple, citing their religious views that denounced gay marriage. The bakery eventually paid a fine of more than $136,000 to the state.
