Although Russia gets the most attention, it is not the only threat the United States faces, incoming House Intelligence Chairman Adam Schiff, D-Calif., told MSNBC's "Morning Joe" on Tuesday, emphasizing that Saudi Arabia and North Korea are also high priorities that his committee will investigate.
"We are going to be doing deep dives into Saudi Arabia and North Korea," Schiff said. "Not just about the Khashoggi murder, but about our reliance on Saudi Arabia, on the stability of Saudi Arabia, on Saudi's role in Yemen and the peace process."
Regarding North Korea, Schiff said it will be important to evaluate if "we can believe the assurances by our president that we can now sleep well at night because North Korea is irrevocably on the path of denuclearization. That isn't consistent with what I'm seeing, and we want to make sure that the country and policymakers have the use of the best intelligence to assess our foreign policy."
Schiff told CBS News' "Face The Nation" on Sunday that President Donald Trump might face "the real prospect of jail time" because of his connection to former lawyer Michael Cohen's campaign finance violations.
Schiff told "Morning Joe" that committee Democrats are now in the process of outlining their "investigative plan" to find out more about possible wrongdoings by the president when they take control of the panel in January, including alleged collusion with Russia.
