Blame Global Conflicts on False Sense of Security, Complacency

The terror attacks committed by Hamas against Israel, equally shocking in both their brutality and brazenness, will have far reaching consequences.

The geopolitical ramifications are already being felt, as Israel strikes back against Hamas with the force and magnitude that such atrocities warrant, and much of the Gaza strip is well on its way to being rendered a parking lot.

The conflict is only poised to escalate further as Arab countries like Iran and terrorist groups like Hezbollah threaten to enter the fray as well.

While America, having already deployed two carrier strike groups to the region, appears likely to be dragged back into that viperous pit that is the Mideast and that for years they have tried desperately to escape.

The reactions to the attacks are also provoking a reckoning of sorts in Western countries as they have brought to light difficult questions about what they have become, and who they have allowed to enter their homes.

Lulled into a false sense of security and complacency about the nature of the world, the West has become dangerously weak and overly indulgent of many things that never should have been tolerated in the first place.

For just as they forgot about the monsters lurking in the shadows of the world and what it took to keep them there, they also neglected to recognize those currently residing within their own borders.

As Hamas brutally killed, raped, and mutilated Jewish men, women, children, and even babies, and filmed it all, on the campuses of the most prestigious Western universities, and in major cities like New York and London, crowds celebrated the atrocities along with the mass murderers that committed them.

This public display of vile antisemitic hate occurring directly after the single worst slaughter of Jews since the Holocaust once would have been unthinkable in such places.

But this is no longer the case.

A fact that has shocked and appalled even many prominent progressive liberals, including former Harvard Professor and President Larry Summers, who took to X (formerly Twitter) to express his horror and dismay.

But Summers and other liberal denizens like himself are now being confronted with what has been cultivated in their institutions for decades.

The progeny of the twisted ideologies that divide the world into oppressors and oppressed that were first inculcated in liberal classrooms and are now infecting Western societies like a virus.

One that many progressives not only failed to stop, but helped to spread further, even long after the harm was glaringly apparent.

Indeed, when Western heroes and even America’s own Founding Fathers were denounced as racists and colonizers and their statues torn down, they gleefully applauded.

And when groups like Black Lives Matter (BLM) burned down cities, they lavished them with praise and provided them with the means necessary to further their violent visions for social justice.

But like the fable of the scorpion and the frog, many progressives are now belatedly discovering that in the end they will not be spared by those they have helped.

Especially as they are now learning about what decolonization really means.

In that same vein, those in the West are also beginning to realize that open borders and indiscriminate mass immigration have had terrible consequences, by importing not only people completely foreign to Western values and traditions, but directly adverse to them.

To that end, while progressives were denouncing others as intolerant racists for wanting to protect their own borders, it was those that they were letting in that should have truly concerned them.

Indeed, some are now even in Congress!

This has led even that scion of globalism Henry Kissinger to admit in the aftermath of the attacks that it was a grave mistake for Western nations to have let in so many people of "totally different culture and religion and concepts."

For it has caused once unified Western nations to increasingly descend into disparate warring tribes and "pressure groups" with little commonality between them.

This presents a potentially dangerous and volatile situation for a nation in even the best of times but exponentially more so when the world is on fire, and strong national unity is required for survival.

Though if there is any good whatsoever to come from Hamas’ terror attacks, perhaps it's that the West must finally face the hate that has been allowed to grow in their own backyards and can correct the mistakes of the past.

Let us only hope that it is not too late.
