President Harry Truman observed: "The definition of a statesman is a dead politician."

But many would say the current Democrat leaders will never become statesmen, even in death.

What has happened to the Democratic Party, the one of John Kennedy and many honorable officials?

The rot appears to be within it: dishonesty, lies, illegal use of government, deceitful manipulation, duplicity, saying one thing to the public on national television when everyone knows it is a lie, dirty tricks, ineptness of managing government, and appearing wrong on the issues. And no compass to correct the mess. Where did this moral decay come from?

The Democratic leadership vacuum was evident in 2008. Hillary Clinton’s honesty and ability was questionable, Joe Biden was accused of plagiarizing a speech he had given, and then there was Obama. He was inspirational and appeared like a good guy.

Obama had little experience or track record. But because the Democrats had few options, Obama was able, with his core support, African Americans, to win the nomination. Most Democrats climbed on the bandwagon, never questioning his ability or credentials. The problems with Obama and the Democratic support of Obama became more obvious once he became president.

The first problem was the lies: "If you like your health care plan, you can keep your health care plan." Obama knew it wasn’t true and every Democrat in Congress knew it wasn’t true. A lie that big, dealing with a policy that involves approximately one-seventh of the national economy and touches most Americans, would seem too big to tell a lie about. But this president and his fellow Democrats told it. And everyone eventually realized it was a lie.

But there were many lies — another involved the tragic Benghazi attack, resulting in American deaths. The Benghazi attack was bad enough, but then the lies and cover-up began. For example, the Obama Administration blocked outside contact with officials involved in interaction with the Benghazi episode. And Obama and Hillary told lies for weeks afterwards about what happened, even though the world, including Americans, realized none of it was true.

The second aspect of rot was the Democrat leaders, including members of Congress, supporting the lies, never speaking out about the lies — and twisting congressional rules, offering bribes to win over reluctant party members to support the Obamacare legislation. In the face of massive opposition, the Democrats, by changing established methods of operating, passed laws in Congress, including Obamacare.

As the unpopularity of Obama policies grew, the Democrats began losing elections, state and national. Yet, most of the Democrats kept lying — supporting Obama’s policies. They ignored or denied that some of his actions appeared to be illegal. Obama, however, wanted to make certain he was able to win a second term; he wanted to weaken his opponents, including the spontaneous, ground-swell of groups, many calling themselves TEA Party (taxed enough already). Because these adversaries, such as the TEA party, required IRS approval to operate, Obama, obviously (he had to know what was going on) had his underlings set up a block at the IRS. The opposition could not campaign against him and when the IRS was found out, Obama’s justice department blocked and subverted the investigation. At this point the illegalities and corruption within were rampant.

Democrats still did not worry regarding such activities, defending everything Obama was doing. There was the Black Lives Matter and the burning of businesses, policemen murdered, government officials taking the fifth amendment, an attorney general secretly meeting to possibly arrange to conceal illegal activities, the lies about Republicans, the "dirty tricks" unit helping Hillary during the 2016 election, and in general the hypocrisy, claiming one thing and doing another.

Many Democrats actually believe its failed policies were the best course, and they believe so strongly about these policies, that they tacitly condone unethical, illegal, violent activities, if only to win and to have the policies adopted. They appear to believe that the "rightness" of Democratic Party polices justifies any measures to insure success. Of course, with such an attitude, one might feel comfortable in 1930s Germany.

The decay does not stop here however, and the most telling aspect of it was that even within the Democratic Party, there was dishonesty in the 2016 selection of Clinton: the Democratic Party leaders sought to help Hillary win the nomination — it was not a fair process within the party itself! To make matters worse, members of the media were also involved in helping Hillary — a candidate so corrupt that a Democratic Party of years ago would not have permitted her to win the nomination. Had the party leaders and media told the truth about Clinton, Democrats perhaps would have selected a better candidate than Hillary Clinton.

At a certain point, one might believe almost any human being would say "enough — no more lies and illegalities" — but it never happened. Even after the 2016 election, the Democrats never admitted any misdeeds, instead it blamed Russia and the election system for the loss, and it took to the streets, sometimes violently, giving death threats, attempting somehow to intimidate the winners of the presidential election. It is a very sad commentary about the Democratic Party. Where are Democratic Party ethical and moral leaders?

The ethical and moral rot within the Democratic Party is palpable and obvious, and until the party cleans up its ethics, America is at risk.
