For all the invective and criticism that followed this year’s tumultuous Iowa caucuses, there is virtually no chance the quadrennial extravaganza will be abolished for 2024.

That was the consensus of Iowa political experts and operatives.  As Democratic National Chairman Tom Perez called for a “recanvass” of the February 3rd caucuses and many in the nation’s punditocracy predicted the event’s demise, Iowans who spoke to Newsmax replied with a firm “No!”

“Some of the problem was due to a malfunction in the app, another part of it due to Bernie Sanders’ Socialists demanding immediate returns for all aspects of the voting," said Dr. Christopher Hull, author of a much-praised history of the Iowa caucuses.

Referring to the malfunctions, Hull told us:  "[T]his is what happens when people seek to turn the Iowa caucuses into a utopia without human error and they wind up with dystopia and even greater errors."

Hull’s view was strongly echoed by Des Moines attorney and former Polk County (Des Moines) GOP Chairman Kim Schmett.

“Despite the technical problems the Democrats are having with their caucus tallies, the caucuses will continue to march on,” Schmett told us without hesitation, “Even if the DNC, which apparently contributed substantially to the problem by insisting on adding a last minute security patch that wasn’t adequately tested, decides to ban caucuses as part of the delegate selection process the caucuses will continue to exist because they are statutorily mandated by Iowa law.”

“The purpose of the Iowa caucuses to elect delegates to county conventions, not to entertain and mollify the national media,” Craig Tufty, veteran pollster and political consultant from Sioux City, Iowa, “Both parties have done it just fine for years and they will continue to do so.’
