Gregory Slayton - Biography
The Honorable Gregory W. Slayton is a former United States ambassador, successful venture capitalist, Silicon Valley CEO, Ivy League and Peking University professor and best-selling author. Slayton has also served on the board of advisors of Google and Salesforce.com, and in executive roles in a number of global leaders including Paramount Studios and McKinsey. He has been featured on the cover of The Wall Street Journal, Time magazine and in numerous HBS case studies, among many others.
Slayton has an enduring personal interest in East Asia. As a child, he was abandoned by his father and taken in by a Chinese-American family. He first visited China in 1983 as a Fulbright scholar to Asia (with his Chinese brother) and is today a distinguished visiting professor at three of China’s best universities. Slayton has lived and worked extensively in Europe, Asia, Africa, and Latin America. He has graduated with honors from Dartmouth (BA) Harvard (MBA) and as a Fulbright scholar he completed a Master in Asian Studies with honors. Slayton speaks five languages.
As the author of the global best-seller “Be a Better Dad Today!” Slayton has committed to being the best father that he can be and encouraging other men to do likewise, with God’s help. He and his wife run the Slayton Family Foundation, and all royalties from their writings are given to charity. Slayton’s primary residence is now in Hanover, New Hampshire where two of their four children are Dartmouth students. They also spend time in Silicon Valley, Hawaii, Dallas, and East Asia.
