Obama Calls for Return to Civility in Washington

Thursday, 04 February 2010 09:53 AM EST

President Barack Obama is calling on lawmakers to bring civility back to the nation's capital.

Speaking at the annual National Prayer Breakfast, Obama said there is a sense that something is broken in Washington, that politicians aren't serving the public as well as they should. Obama urged leaders to be empowered by faith to step outside their comfort zone to bridge divisions and unite around their common goals.

Vice President Joe Biden, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and former Florida Gators quarterback Tim Tebow also participated at the yearly breakfast, which has been held in Washington for more than 50 years.
