Romney Says He Should Have Stuck to Economy in '08

Wednesday, 24 March 2010 11:38 PM EDT

Republican Mitt Romney says he would have done better in the 2008 presidential race if he'd kept the focus of his campaign on his "power alley" — the economy and his business background.

Romney told reporters Wednesday that top rival John McCain pushed the need to heighten the nation's military engagement in Iraq and that he couldn't compete with McCain on the issue of who was most experienced in dealing with Iraq.

The former Massachusetts governor says he hasn't decided about running for president in 2012. He's been hammering the Obama administration in a new book he's promoting during a 19-city tour.

Romney's latest stop was in President Barack Obama's hometown of Chicago.
