Gingrich Makes St. Patrick's Day Rounds in NH

Thursday, 17 March 2011 03:28 PM EDT

Not committing to be a presidential candidate — yet sounding a lot like one — Newt Gingrich says voters should remember the accomplishments in Congress when he was speaker of the House: controlled spending, a balanced budget, and a cut in taxes to create jobs.

Gingrich says if he finds enough volunteer and financial support, he'll most likely run. He says he is "assessing that right now."

He has said he expects to open a campaign office soon in his home state of Georgia and that if he decides to run for president, he likely will announce it in May.

Gingrich spoke Thursday in New Hampshire, where he was attending St. Patrick's Day events.
