Emanuel: Fake Twitter Wasn't Always So Far Off

Wednesday, 02 March 2011 09:07 PM EST

CHICAGO — Chicago Mayor-elect Rahm Emanuel says the profanity-laced fake Twitter feed chronicling his adventures on the campaign trail at times captured his "sentiments exactly."

Emanuel joked with the Chicago professor behind the fake Twitter feed on WLS-AM Wednesday during an event dubbed "The Twitter Summit."

The comments on (at)MayorEmanuel were so popular during the mayoral race that they attracted more than 39,000 followers, more than the real Emanuel had on his feed.

Creator Dan Sinker is a professor at Columbia College in Chicago. He says it started as a joke with a few friends. Emanuel says he first heard of it when several friends said they thought it sounded like the real him.

The mayor-elect also fulfilled a promise to give $5,000 to Young Chicago Authors, a charity of Sinker's choosing.
