A team assigned to prepare for Donald Trump's possible transition to the presidency is working out of the same building as a Clinton campaign team at work on Clinton's transition, according to The Washington Post.

The Post said this is the first time two campaigns have worked literally side-by-side. The Washington, D.C. building they occupy is at 1717 Pennsylvania Avenue, one block from the White House.

Both campaigns are getting federally funded office space with millions in tech and administrative support from the General Services Administration, according to The Post.

Partnership for Public Service president Max Stier said, "They're both actively building out their teams." Former Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar leads Clinton's team, while New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is in charge of Trump's transition team, the Post said.

By comparison, in 2008, then-GOP nominee John McCain worked out of his campaign headquarters in Arlington, Virginia, and Barack Obama's transition office was above a Subway restaurant, the Post said.

Plans and efforts of transition teams have been stepped up. Stier said, "This is the first time ever where you've got major parties, non-incumbents, with aggressive pre-election transition planning efforts."

The new efforts are the result of laws passed by Congress and signed by President Obama to make the transition smoother. Agencies now distribute information electronically, for example.

The Post reported that a president-elect has 73 days after being elected before inauguration day. That comes with making 4,000 political appointments and proposing a $4 trillion federal government budget within weeks of taking office.

Some critics expressed their concern over Salazar's appointment to Clinton's team, according to Politico. Salazar is a proponent of fracking for oil and natural gas.

Trump enlisted Christie for the transition job in May, according to Politico, and Clinton appointed Salazar earlier in August.
