Virginia Poll: Rubio Lags Trump by 8 Points; Cruz in Third

Donald Trump leads among Republicans with 28 percent backing, followed by Marco Rubio at 22 percent, according to a poll by Wason Center for Public Policy at Christopher Newport University in Virginia, a Super Tuesday state.

The rest of the field:

  • Ted Cruz is backed by 19 percent
  •  Ben Carson and John Kasich get 7 percent
  •  Jeb Bush is at 4 percent
Among Democrats, Hillary Clinton leads Bernie Sanders 52 to 40 percent.

The poll was conducted Feb. 3-14. It sampled 735 registered voters conducted and has an  error margin of +/- 4.3 percent.

The poll found that two-thirds of Virginia voters have an unfavorable view of Trump. Rubio has the highest favorable rating among all candidates at 44 percent.
