Despite the "coup" or "no coup" controversy and the ongoing political unrest in Egypt, the United States is going ahead with plans to deliver four more F-16 jets to the beleaguered Arab nation.
U.S. law bars the delivery of American aid to a government judged to have seized power in a coup.
But President Barack Obama has not used the word "coup" in reference to the Egyptian military's ouster of the elected president, Mohammed Morsi, and senior American officials say the jets will be delivered in the next few weeks,
according to the BBC.
They are part of an order of 20 planes. Eight were sent to Egypt in January, and the final eight are expected to be delivered later this year.
White House spokesman Jay Carney said on Wednesday that it would not be "in the best interests of the United States to make immediate changes to our assistance programs."
American military aid to Egypt is estimated to be $1.3 billion a year.
