Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton walked straight to their lecterns without shaking hands at Wednesday's third and final debate, and their families earlier had walked into the hall without announcement and without greeting each other.
The Clinton campaign reportedly made the request the families not greet over concerns that Trump might try to add someone to his family's entourage as he did at the second debate, when he attempted to have three women who have accused former President Bill Clinton of sexual misconduct.
The Commission on Presidential Debates did not allow the women to sit with the family in that debate.
The candidates themselves did shake hands at the beginning of the first debate as is usual, but did not shake hands at the beginning of the second debate, though they did at the conclusion.
