President Donald Trump sought the advice of Fox News' Kimberly Guilfoyle before announcing his decision to pull the U.S. out of the Paris climate accord.
Guilfoyle, co-host of the news network's program "The Five," said she received an 8 a.m. call from Trump on Thursday to discuss getting out of the agreement. A video of her revealing the Trump call was posted by Media Matters for America.
"I think he did the brave and courageous thing, and in fact I told him that … when he called," said Guilfoyle of her conversation with the president.
"I know, yeah, the president called me at 8 in the morning. I thought it was Fox News. But then he said he loves 'The Five' — 'terrific show' — and said to say hello to all of you."
She added: "He was excited about this today. it was going to be a big speech and a lot of people would be excited about it. However, there would be people that would be upset and disappointed. He would do his best to explain."
She said Trump was being very consistent with his campaign pledge on the Paris agreement.
"He promised he was going to do this," she said.
The Washington Post reported Guilfoyle "is openly gunning" for the White House press secretary's job, which is now held by Sean Spicer
And The New York Times said Trump has raised the possibility to advisers of naming her press secretary.
