House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Mike McCaul on Tuesday attributed the deadly truck attack in Manhattan on Tuesday as an act by the Islamic State terror group.
"This was the ninth vehicle assault used by ISIS," McCaul, R-Texas, told Fox News Channel's "Special Report with Bret Baier."
Officials so far have said it is too early to say whether the attack that killed at least eight people and injured at least 15 more is a "lone wolf" attack by a self-radicalized individual or whether it was tied to a terrorist cell.
But McCaul noted witnesses reported the man shouted "Allahu akbar!" and used a technique first suggested in ISIS's magazine.
"For two years, they have called out in their Internet magazine to attack by vehicle, explosive device, knives and small-scale attacks," he said. As adherents see their "caliphate" being defeated in Mosul and Raqqa, Iraq, more such attacks will happen he said.
