Democrat Hillary Clinton said she will defend Planned Parenthood and the Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision legalizing abortion nationwide.
Republican Donald Trump said he will appoint justices who are pro-life and that if Roe v. Wade were overturned it would return the decision on legalizing abortion to to the states.
"I will defend Planned Parenthood. I will defend Roe v. Wade, and I will defend women's right to make their own healthcare decisions," Clinton said during Wednesday's third and final presidential debate.
Trump said it is "terrible" that Clinton supports abortion all the way up to just before the moment of birth.
"You can take the baby and rip the baby out of the womb of the mother just prior to the birth of the baby," Trump said. "Now, you can say that that's OK, and Hillary can say that that's OK, but it's not OK with me."
Though most Americans support a right to abortion, most oppose it in the third trimester of pregnancy. But Clinton argued that very rarely would a third trimester abortion occur almost at the point of birth.
"Using that kind of scare rhetoric is just terribly unfortunate," she said. "You should meet with some of the women that I have met with. … This is one of the worst possible choices that any woman and her family has to make. And I do not believe the government should be making it."
"Honestly, nobody has business doing what I just said, doing that as late as one or two or three or four days prior to birth," Trump responded. "Nobody has that right."
