Conservative rocker Ted Nugent said he likes several of the GOP presidential candidates, but frontrunner Donald Trump would make an especially good commander-in-chief.
"He would kick *** and take names and that's what America needs right now," Nugent said Sunday on
"The Rita Cosby Show" on WABC in New York.
Nugent said he admires Trump's boldness, but also likes Scott Walker, Ted Cruz and others in the crowded 17-candidate field.
Walker, Nugent said, "literally took Wisconsin out of the hands of the hippies. And it was turning into a suburb of Chicago, and he brought it back to the rugged individual, rugged independent productive state that Wisconsin truly is."
He added, however, "I’m not so sure about [former Florida Gov. Jeb] Bush. I don't care for him that much."
Nugent said that Trump made a mistake saying that former Arizona Sen. John McCain was not a war hero, but said it was the result an angry exchange with interviewer Frank Luntz.
"But I also understand that when Donald Trump says that rapists and murderers are coming across our border," he said.
Trump was roundly criticized for those comments, with detractors saying he was talking about all Mexicans.
"What kind of dishonest punk would think that Donald Trump claims everybody coming across the border is a rapist and a murderer?" Nugent said. "I mean, you gotta be on LSD to think that."
