Former Massachusetts Sen. Scott Brown called it "embarrassing" and a "complete show of disrespect" for the Obama administration to avoid contact with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu when he addresses a joint session of Congress Tuesday morning.
Brown, a Republican, appeared Monday on Fox News Channel's
"Your World with Neil Cavuto" and compared the shunning to when President Barack Obama skipped the Paris anti-terrorism rally that was attended by more than 40 world leaders.
Netanyahu will address the negotiations between Iran and the P5+1, which includes the United States, over its nuclear intentions. Netanyahu believes the current deal being discussed will allow for a nuclear Iran that will threaten Israel's existence.
The Hill reports that more than 40 Democrats have said they plan not to show up because Republican House Speaker John Boehner invited Netanyahu without consulting Democratic leadership or the White House.
But Brown said Netanyahu can bring the perspective of living in a country that is continually threatened with annihilation.
"I think it's completely disrespectful not to show up," he said.
