Republican operative and Second Amendment advocate
Karl Rove said Sunday the only way to stop gun violence in America completely is to outlaw guns.
Asked by
"Fox News Sunday" host Chris Wallace, "How do we stop the violence?" Rove said there isn't an easy answer.
Speaking of the killing of nine black church members in Charleston, S.C. on Wednesday, reportedly only because they were black, Rove said, "We saw an act of evil – racist, bigoted evil."
Dylann Roof, a 21-year-old white man has been charged in the killings.
Rove said there might be "some magic law" that would stop the string of gun-related killings in America, but added, "basically the only way to guarantee that we will dramatically reduce acts of violence involving guns is to basically remove guns from society. And until somebody gets enough oomph to repeal the Second Amendment, that’s not going to happen."
He added, however, that repealing the right to bear arms is not the answer in his opinion. Instead, he said, friends and family should have seen the warning signs that Roof was growing increasingly disaffected and hateful toward black people.
"I wish that some of those people had spoken up and said, 'Here's somebody who is in trouble, and a danger to himself and others,'" Rove said.
