Mitt Romney has released robocalls supporting Ted Cruz's campaign in Utah and Arizona ahead of voting there on March 22, according to ABC News.

"This is the time for Republicans across the spectrum to unite behind Ted," says Romney in the recording. "He is the only Republican candidate who can defeat Donald Trump. And at this point, a vote for John Kasich is a vote for Donald Trump."

"Ted Cruz has spent his life fighting for the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, and he'll fight to bring back jobs to America and raise wages for everyone. Ted will be a strong commander in chief who will keep America safe."

Romney supported Marco Rubio with robocalls before Rubio suspended his campaign, according to CNN.

Despite his statement about voting for Kasich, Romney recorded calls that favored Kasich, according to NBC News.

Those calls were paid for by Kasich's campaign, but do not specifically endorse Kasich.

After those calls were released, Kasich sought to downplay them. Kasich said that Romney was "recording robocalls for everyone."

Kasich said, "We want to make sure that people don't think Romney's for somebody else and not for me." He added, "Is this the scenario I would have liked? Not really, but it is what it is."
