Twitter Embraces Romney's 'Binders of Women'

At least two new Twitter accounts, as well as a website and a Tumblr account, all were registered tonight after Governor Mitt Romney said in the second Presidential debate that he requested “binders of women” when searching for female candidates for open cabinet positions, according to ABC.

The reference lit up Twitter, which saw almost three million fewer related tweets during this debate than the first one two weeks ago, as reporters and random debate-watchers alike took shots at the uncomfortable reference.

“And I said, ‘Well, gosh, can’t we — can’t we find some — some women that are also qualified?” Romney said. “I went to a number of women’s groups and said, ‘Can you help us find folks,’ and they brought us whole binders full of women.”

Tweeters had a lot to say about the argument between Obama and Romney on oil policy, as well as the administration’s response to the embassy attack in Libya, both of which had about 100,000 tweets.

That number was the same as the tussle between the candidates about investments and pensions — which garnered attention at least because of Obama’s response:

“I don’t look at my pension, its not as big as yours,” Obama said.
