Florida Gov. Rick Scott Thursday called for an end to "Republican on Republican fighting" and for the party to rally around Donald Trump so Hillary Clinton won't win the White House in November.
"We have had a tough primary season and two favorites from Florida have lost," Scott told Fox News'
"America's Newsroom" program.
"A lot of my friends as governors have not made it. I want jobs. I know Donald Trump can focus on jobs like I have done down here and turn this economy around."
Scott said he waited until Wednesday, the day after primary elections were held in his state, to
endorse Trump, because he wanted to let Florida voters decide who to choose, and they overwhelmingly went to the New York real estate mogul.
He also compared it to his own non-establishment campaign for governor back in 2010.
"All the establishment — I was the business person, the outsider," said Scott. "All the establishment told me to get out of the race. We would not win. We would hurt our chance to win later.
"And what happened? We won. We had big majorities in the House and Senate. We have turned our state around."
Meanwhile, Scott said he believes that voters will be frustrated with party leaders if a contested convention pushes Trump out of getting the nomination this summer, and he thinks he did the right thing by waiting to endorse him.
He also believes Trump will have a "big win in November" in Florida.
