Hillary Clinton leads Donald Trump by 5 points in Florida, according to the latest Monmouth University poll released Tuesday.
The Monmouth survey comes 24 hours after a New York Times poll showed Trump and Clinton in a virtual tie in the all-important battleground state, and 4 days after a Reuters survey that predicted Trump is likely to win the Sunshine State.
Monmouth's results, which have a margin of error of almost 5 points:
- Clinton: 46 percent;
- Trump: 41 percent;
- Gary Johnson: 6 percent;
- Jill Stein: 1 percent;
- Undecided: 5 percent.
Clinton held a 9-point lead in Monmouth's August survey.
Clinton's lead is powered by 69 percent support from black, Hispanic and Asian voters, compared to just 16 percent for Trump, according to the poll. Trump has an 18-point lead with white voters.
"Although Clinton's lead is smaller than in our last poll, she is maintaining her advantage in Florida given the ominous state of her poll standing last week," said Patrick Murray, director of the Monmouth poll.
"Florida has become less of a crucial battleground now that the campaigns' attention has turned to the Rust Belt. However, a win here would make the path to 270 electoral votes that much easier for the victor and difficult for the loser."
The survey shows that three out of four voters are aware of Trump's admission that President Barack Obama was born in America, but only one out of four voters believe the nominee is sincere about the recent assertion.
However, 76 percent say the dustup won't have any impact on their vote regardless.
The Monmouth University poll was conducted from Sept. 16 to 19 with 400 Florida residents likely to vote in the November election.
This sample has a margin of error of +/-4.9 percent.
