Sean Collier, 26, was identified as the Massachusetts Institute of Technology police officer killed in the firefight Thursday night between police and the Boston bombing suspects, USA Today reports.

Shots were reported on campus Thursday night and police engaged in back-and-forth gunfire with brothers Tamerlan, 26, and Dzhokar Tsarnaev, 19. The older brother was killed and the younger is still at large.

Collier was pronounced dead upon arrival at Massachusetts General sometime after 10:30 p.m. His body was found 10 minutes after the gunshots were first reported on campus.

MIT Police Chief John Fiva described the young man in a press release as a “dedicated officer who was extremely well liked by his colleagues and the MIT community.”

Collier is from Somerset, Mass. and graduated from Salem State University in 2009 with a degree in criminal justice. He was one of the top candidates to join the Somerset Police Department, Mayor Joseph Curtatone said, where he previously worked in the information technology department.
