Vice President Mike Pence visited FEMA headquarters in Washington Saturday for a briefing on relief efforts in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, later tweeting that he was "proud of our team and all first responders."

In addition, President Donald Trump spent Saturday defending the administration's efforts and slamming San Juan Mayor Carmen Yulin Cruz for her biting attacks on the White House's response to the island's plight.
He later doubled down on his attacks on Cruz, a member of Puerto Rico's Popular Democratic Party.
Trump is scheduled to visit Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands on Tuesday — and Pence will also tour the islands next week.
