Rep. Mark Sanford – a former governor of South Carolina – is throwing his support behind Republican presidential candidate Sen. Ted Cruz in the state's GOP primary Saturday.
At a rally for the Texas lawmaker Friday that also included an appearance by Phil Robertson from the "Duck Dynasty" reality-television show, Sanford said criticism of Cruz for being
"nasty" and over
his campaign tactics has "gotten out of bounds,"
The State reports.
"When you have folks criticizing this guy for what he said on spending. When you have folks saying it doesn’t mater what the Constitution is. ... The beauty of the Constitution is that it matters not what one of us thinks. It matters what the Constitution prescribes," Sanford said, The State reports.
Sanford's the second member of the South Carolina congressional delegation to endorse Cruz; Rep. Jeff Duncan is also backing him in the Palmetto State's primary contest, where
an averaging of polls shows Cruz and Sen. Marco Rubio in a tight race for second place behind front-runner Donald Trump.
